Ryan's Virst Trip to the ER

After 4 1/2 years we have made our first ER visit with Ryan. I thought we would have made it there before now so I think we are doing pretty good. Like I said in the last post that Ryan gets to go to Tucson with Blaine every once in a while. Well a couple of Tuesday's ago Ryan was going to go it was a normal night a normal size run and NO rain in the forecast. Everyone was happy they even stopped and got some ice cream on the way down. Life was good. They got to there 2nd and biggest stop and Ryan was helping daddy as normal. Ryan sits on the back of the truck and lowers the life gate.

Blaine has a 30ft truck with about a 4 ft lift on it so imagine the biggest moving truck you can have with out his CDL. When they pulled into Tucson it was starting to sprinkle a little so Blaine had to cover all of the pallets of newspapers when was leaving because he drops them outside. All of a sudden it started raining in sheets within about two minuets the parking lot was flooded. Ryan and Blaine hung out in the back of the truck trying to wait for the rain to trail off. It didn't happen so Blaine quickly finished his last few pallets while Ry stayed in the truck. They finished up and they where both standing on the lift. Blaine pulled the door down and Ryan didn't see what he was doing and at the same time Ry went over to start to push the button to make the lift go down so they could get going. Ryan ran into Blaine's rear and slipped on the wet lift and on his way down hit his chin on the edge. Needless to say Ryan was bleeding pretty bad because it is a head wound. Blaine called me a few times and I could hear the rain coming down. I asked him to call me when he left like I always do so I have an idea of when he will get home. I get a call saying that there has been a little accident. I am trying to keep my cool thinking he was in a car accident. He told me no Ryan got hurt. Okay so what happened? He told me what happened and I asked him if it needed stitches or if he was going to take him to urgent care in Tucson. He said since he is driving a 30ft truck and really didn't know his way around Tucson hat he got it to stop bleeding and would come home.

I was still up when they got home and they where both soaked so I got Ryan in some PJ's and took his make shift butterfly band aid off. ( Blaine's scout training came in handy) I opened up the bottom of the band aid and saw a nice size hole in his chin and said call your mm we need to take him in. Lets remember it is now 1am in the morning when they got home. Blaine's mom came over and we started for a Pediatric Urgent Care that we thought was all night. Well they closed at 11pm. So e went to another urgent care that closed at 12.

So off to the ER we go. I wanted to go to the one with the children's hospital in it so we headed off to Banner Desert. We got him all check in and they took him back.

Even at 1:45am he is still happy( Waiting in the hospital)
He did really a lot better than I thought he would. Ryan doesn't really do Doctors very good. He did really good but I think it was because he had a cute nurse. They put on this numbing gel for an hour but had to put it back on halfway though. He was such a trooper.

My Bro in Law Nathan I knew was still doing his ER rotation at the same hospital and told Blaine to text him even though we didn't think he would be there at 1:45am but I figured if we didn't that he would be there and then we would feel bad and if he wasn't there and was a sleep that he would get the text in the morning.
About a minuet later his phone beeped and guess who was working his first graveyard over in the big people ER. Yep Uncle Nathan was working so he said that he would come and visit us in a few minuets. The nice thing was he brought us some much needed drinks. Nathan stayed as long as he could but they never came in to do Ry's stitches. Well about 3 minuets after he left they came in and Nathan got busy so he couldn't come back over.

The doc looked at it and said they could get away with gluing it even thought they really should have done a single stitch but that would have required knocking him out and staying a lot longer. He said the only difference was he scar would be a little bigger. Don't all boy's/men have scar under there chin. I said glue away. It took five of us to hold him down but we got it done and then we where out the door. My cute little one is staring to get a little delirious now. We are still waiting for the numbing gel to kick in he was starting to say things that really didn't make since but it was keeping us entertained. This is after they put the glue on his nurse said that if he was a good boy he could have a Popsicle. He has just started to like them so he was okay with that. He really wanted a green one but settled for the red one. He said because there where two that he would share it with me. What a nice little boy.

Showing off his hurt chin.

The big thing they said was to make sure that he doesn't pick at it. We got out of the ER in a record setting time think we where home by 3am and we got there at 1:45 so not to bad in hospital time.

Later on the same Wednesday morning Cameron was acting up and was having a hard time going to sleep. I took Cameron into my room to try and put him down because Cameron's crying was not being handled well by Ryan. Ryan had done so good with leaving his chin a lone all day until I left the room for about 30min. I got Cameron to sleep and then came out to see half of the glue had been picked off his face. Great now what to do so I called his DR's and told them what happened wondering if I needed to take him in to get it re-glued. They said that it had been to long and they couldn't re-glue so to put a butterfly band aid over the part that he took off to pinch it back together. This worked for about a day. The next day he got up and showed us he had messed with it again and got even more off. The only good thing is that the deepest part of the cut was still glued together. By this time his chin was starting to look really red so I took him into our DR. to make sure it wasn't getting infected. She said it looked okay and they told us in the hospital that we couldn't put anything over it. I told her I wish we could cover it so he would leave it a lone. The great thing is she said that we could. She put a Donald duck band aid on it and he started to leave it alone.I decided to keep him home the rest of the week from school only two day's because I didn't think that his teachers would want to watch him from messing with it. He didn't mind the missing school but he did mind the not being able to go to gymnastics with Grandma and the girls.

This is what it looked like a couple of days ago
I am so glad that it was just his chin I could have been a lot worse.
